We are excited to share that our friends at Moog Music, Inc. have announced the latest reissue of the iconic Minimoog Model D: the Bob Moog Tribute Edition (BMTE), a limited run of 500 synthesizers. For each unit sold, Moog Music is generously donating $500 to the Bob Moog Foundation.

The BMTE Minimoog Model D carries a 56-year legacy forward with a fully analog signal path that includes the same updates as the 2022 reissue. Among those updates are:

• Improved stability
• Full MIDI support
• Dedicated low-frequency oscillator (LFO)

The Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog also features:

• Unique quarter sawn white oak cabinet. The quarter sawn method results in superior stability, and produces a distinct straight grain with prominent, beautiful “ray fleck” or tiger stripe patterns.
• Bob Moog Tribute Edition name badge on the back of the Minimoog
• Both the Moog Music logo and the silhouette of Bob from the Bob Moog Foundation logo

We designed this limited-edition production run with intentional details that commemorate Bob Moog’s earliest synthesizer models. The instrument features a custom badge that uses a metal photo-anodization process, which harkens back to the modular panel graphics found on the System 55, System 35, and Model 10 synthesizers, as well as select early R.A. Moog Co. Minimoogs.

The instrument features a custom quartersawn oak wood enclosure, a unique back-panel decal, and an included SR Series travel case, along with 100% analog circuitry and all the modern functional enhancements from the instrument’s latest reissue.

Each Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D synthesizer is assembled by hand in our North Carolina production facility, and only 500 in total will be built by our small team.

Keyboardist and synth programmer Casey Young recently donated a rare Moog Liberation keytar synthesizer to the Bob Moog Foundation Archives. Notable musician and performer Gary Wright previously owned the synthesizer, manufactured in 1980 to 1981. This model, serial number 8041, boasts a rare, white paint job from the factory. The Bob Moog Foundation Archives is delighted to curate this vintage instrument, which is the second Moog Liberation in our growing archival collection.

Keytar synthesizers were not very common until the mid-1980s, when the onset of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) meant that keyboard controllers only needed a keybed and basic interface to remotely control a synthesizer. As it was in 1980, the Liberation needed to be an all-in-one sound-generating synthesizer, internally quite similar to a Moog Prodigy. Naturally, this added quite a bit of weight to what was designed as a portable instrument. This, along with Moog Music experiencing market struggles, led to the Liberation’s short production run. As a result, over four decades later, the Liberation has become increasingly rare and collectible.

Casey Young’s extensive musical accomplishments include collaborations with a wide variety of artists besides Gary Wright, including Yes, Madonna, TOTO, Michael Jackson, and Tina Turner. You can learn more about Casey on this NAMM.org Library page, which includes a brief oral history video.

“Getting to work with Gary Wright was one of the best gigs I ever had,” noted Casey Young in a personal note accompanying his donation. “He did so much to jump-start my musical journey.” Young went on to explain that Moog Music, while sponsoring the band, donated the use of three black Liberations and one white one for the “Heartbeat” video. Young was afterward gifted the white Liberation by Wright while the remaining three were returned.

Gary Wright, writer and composer of the 1976 hit song “Dream Weaver,” famously played keytar synthesizers during live performances. The white Moog Liberation appears in his 1981 music video for “Heartbeat.” Ownership of this synthesizer was transferred to musical collaborator Casey Young, who maintained possession until donating it to the Bob Moog Foundation Archives. Keith Noel Emerson was a renowned keyboardist, songwriter, and composer. His first commercial success was performing with the Nice from 1967 to 1970. He then became a founding member of the progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), and was famed for his soloing wizardry, stage antics, and bombastic synthesizer rigs. Keith Emerson passed away on March 11th, 2016.

This panel was made possible in part by TEC Tracks, an educational program at The NAMM Show designed for music industry professionals that focuses on advancements in recording technology, live sound, studio operations, and career development.

Purchase one or more raffle tickets during the raffle, and you will be entered in a drawing to win a rare Minimoog Voyager XL, serial number XL0475. The Minimoog XL is valued at $7,500 US.

Raffle tickets are $25 each, 5 for $100, 12 for $200, or 35 for $500. The odds of winning are based on the number of ticket entries purchased. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to enter. Tickets are non-transferable.

Past and current employees of the Bob Moog Foundation and current employees of Moog Music, Inc. are not eligible for entry. Past winners are not eligible for entry—we love you all, but let’s give someone else a turn.

The raffle is open to participants worldwide—contest void where prohibited. The raffle begins at 7 a.m. on February 2nd, 2026, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on February 23rd, 2026. All times referenced are Eastern Standard Time.

SHIPPING TERMS: The Bob Moog Foundation agrees to pay up to $200 in shipping costs within the United States and $400 internationally. Any additional shipping and/or customs charges are the winner’s responsibility. By purchasing a raffle ticket, you agree to cover all fees over the above-referenced figures before shipment of the prize. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of the prize and an alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.

TAX OBLIGATIONS: The IRS now requires raffle winners to pay federal taxes on raffle winnings at the time of the award. The Bob Moog Foundation will pay to the IRS, on behalf of the winner, an amount equal to 31.58% of our cost of the synthesizer. The tax must be paid not only on the fair market value of the winnings, but also on the tax itself, therefore a grossed up tax rate of 31.58% of the winnings. This may or may not be the actual amount you will owe on your federal taxes. 

All local and state taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. For any prizes valued at $600 or more, the Bob Moog Foundation will file IRS Form 1099 MISC with the Internal Revenue Service reporting the value of the prize as income to the winner. If the winner is a U.S. citizen, they must show proof of Social Security number to the Bob Moog Foundation. This is for tax recording purposes only, and will not be used or released for any other purposes.

MODIFICATIONS OR CANCELLATION OF DRAWING: The Bob Moog Foundation reserves the right to cancel or modify the raffle at any time. If the raffle is canceled, all entries will be refunded.

INDEMNIFICATION AND LIMIT ON LIABILITY: As a condition of accepting a prize, the winner acknowledges that the Bob Moog Foundation is not responsible for any harm, injury, or damage caused to any person or property, proximate or otherwise, through the use of any prize by any person, and agrees to save and hold harmless the Bob Moog Foundation, its principals and employees from any claim of such responsibility. This beautiful synthesizer was released in 2010 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic Minimoog Model D. The Minimoog Voyager XL is valued at $7,500. 

Raffle tickets are $25 each, 5 for $100, 12 for $200, and 35 for $500.

The raffle begins Monday, February 2nd at 7:00 am EST and ends 11:59 pm EST Monday, February 23rd, 2026.

The raffle is open internationally.

The Minimoog Voyager XL builds on the original Voyager, which was released in 2002, with:

• An expanded 61-note keyboard
• Ribbon controller
• Additional LFO modulation bus
• An extensive front-panel analog patch bay that opens the Voyager up to a more modular approach to creating sounds with more flexibility that any previous Voyager model

Like the original Minimoog Model D released in 1971, if features three wide-range voltage-controlled oscillators, once noise source, two resonant filters, an external audio output, two ASDR envelopes and an LFO.

Thomas Dolby is an English musician, record producer, composer, and professor. Early in his career, he was a session musician who played a crucial role in Foreigner’s 1981 album 4, contributing signature synthesizer sounds, most famously on “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and “Urgent,” helping propel the album to #1. He also played keyboards and synthesizers for Def Leppard’s iconic 1983 album Pyromania and later collaborated with George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic, the Thompson Twins, and many others. Dolby is known for his creative, genre-bending approach to songwriting.

Dolby’s prominence in the early 1980s was fostered by hit singles including “She Blinded Me with Science” (1982) and “Hyperactive” (1984). In the 1990s, Dolby founded Beatnik, a Silicon Valley software company whose technology was used to play internet audio and later ringtones. He was also the music director for TED Conferences from 2001 to 2012. In 2014, he joined the faculty at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where he leads the New Media Program.

“The essence of the Voyager XL is that it’s the best of all worlds. It’s got the modular capability, ribbon bend controller, MIDI, and presets created by some of the foremost synthesists of our time,” noted Dolby. “It’s everything that we liked about the original Minimoog in a modern package.”

Funds raised from the raffle will be used to expand the Bob Moog Foundation’s hallmark educational project, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, which has inspired over 35,000 elementary school students through the science of sound. The raffle also helps support the Bob Moog Foundation Archives and the Moogseum, an immersive, experiential museum located in Asheville, NC, which brings the science of sound and synthesis alive for people of all ages through Bob Moog’s pioneering legacy. The Moogseum opened in May 2019 and has since welcomed over 50,000 visitors from all over the world. It is still recovering from the long-term financial impact of Hurricane Helene.

One of the highlights of NAMM was our TEC Tracks panel, “Celebrating the Legacy of Keith Emerson.” Moderated by Michelle Moog-Koussa, the rousing, in-depth discussion included Steve Porcaro (Toto), Moog historian Brian Kehew, former Moog engineer and tech to Keith Emerson, Rich Walborn, synthesist Rachel Flowers, and Emerson’s fiancée, Mari Kawaguchi.

Every day in our booth began with the progressive synthesizer stylings of Circuline keyboardist Andrew Colyer, with Grammy nominee Robert Berry on vocals.

While accompanying Andrew Colyer for morning performances, Robert Berry would occasionally play along on the vintage Minimoog.

Ikuo Kakehashi, percussionist and son of Ikutaro Kakehashi (founder of Roland Corporation), and Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation.

Performances and demonstrations like this made our booth very busy, very often. Every visitor to the Bob Moog Foundation booth at NAMM is an opportunity to spread knowledge of our mission, so we appreciated all the foot traffic. The Bob Moog Foundation is pleased to announce that it will honor the legendary keyboardist Keith Emerson at the 2026 NAMM Convention, which runs from Thursday January 22, 2026 to Saturday January 24, 2026. You can find us in Hall A, at booth 10604.

To honor Keith Emerson as we approach ten years since his untimely passing, you’ll be able to see one of five very rare Keith Emerson Moog Modular System (KEMMS) reissues in our booth, on loan from Orange Coast Modular. Keyboardist Andrew Colyer (Circuline) will pair up with progressive rock guitarist Robert Berry, and notable synthesists Rachel Flowers and Lisa Bella Donna will be demonstrating the modular in our booth at scheduled times. In addition, two educational and historical presentations about the modular will be given by one of its co-designers, Brian Kehew. Here is the full schedule for booth performances:

Visitors to the booth will be able to learn about Keith Emerson and the story behind the creation of the KEMMS with an informative display, which is being created especially for our NAMM appearance this year. So even if your busy schedule in Anaheim doesn’t line up with our scheduled demonstrations, you’ll still be able to immerse yourself in the history of this legendary musician and the massive synthesizer recreation that he inspired.

Michelle Moog-Koussa, our Executive Director, will moderate the panel. The panel takes place from 4 pm – 5pm on Friday, January 23rd in the Hilton’s California B room.

About Moog Music’s Keith Emerson Moog Modular System (KEMMS): In collaboration with Keith Emerson, Moog Music announced this giant undertaking in March, 2014. Using original documentation as well as circuit board and art files for nearly every original Moog module, Brian Kehew and Moog Music engineer Gene Stopp led the efforts to painstakingly recreate Keith’s original modular synthesizer which he toured with while performing in ELP (Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Only five of these imposing synthesizers were built, and sold for $150,000 each. Keith Emerson’s original modular is housed at the Museum of Music Technology.

We’re excited to announce our winter fundraising raffle! The grand prize is a stunning, custom-built Eurorack modular synthesizer system housed in a handcrafted 15U (126 hp) walnut cabinet by Asheville-based woodcraftsman Christopher Perryman (Goldsplinter Woodworking Studio). Valued at $24,000, the system includes 50 Eurorack modules, 11 controllers, and components from 52 companies across 17 countries.

Tickets for the raffle are $25 each, 5 for $100, 12 for $200, and 35 for $500.

The raffle is open internationally.

The first prize winner of the raffle will also receive a copy of the 352-page Bjooks book Push, Turn, Move, signed by Kim Bjorn (publisher). Synthesizer pioneer and educator Chris Meyer, who curated and assembled the modular system, will also provide the winner free access to his Learning Modular online courses. Patch cables and a gift pack from Luigi’s Modular Supply will also be supplied.

Second and third place prizes don’t always happen, but for this raffle, Expressive E generously provided a coveted Osmose MPE synthesizer (valued at $1799) for the second prize, and a copy of software synthesizer Noisy 2 (valued at $149) for third prize.

The raffle begins Monday, December 1, 2025, at 7:00 am (EST) and ends Friday, December 19, 2025 at 11:59 pm (EST).

All proceeds benefit the three projects of the Bob Moog Foundation: Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, the Bob Moog Foundation Archives, and the Moogseum.

“The theme for this year’s modular system is: What would Bob do? I started with his interest in alternate controllers: from the Theremin kits he originally sold, to the ribbon and percussion controllers he offered with the original Moog modular system, to his later research into more expressive keyboard controllers. Then I looked at the columns he wrote for Keyboard Magazine explaining different synthesis techniques, including frequency modulation, phase distortion, Karplus-Strong, VOSIM, additive synthesis, resynthesis, and sampling.

“I made sure all of those and more were represented in this instrument, along with all of the normal filters, envelope generators, amplifiers, modulators, sequencers, mixers, and utility modules you need to create a complete system. The result is a very advanced, expressive, versatile modular instrument capable of playing several voices at once and which will keep its new owner deeply engaged in sonic exploration for many years to come.” — Chris Meyer

Being a cabinet-maker, it’s always a refreshing good time doing a project with the Bob Moog Foundation. Instead of head-scratching on the first day with contractors and home-owners, its done with electrical and sound engineers that are all really good at their jobs. On the outside, the final product is just a small, superior-grade walnut box, but the inside is full of careful design that will hopefully pack a big sonic punch and look good while doing it. The Bob Moog Foundation is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation under the laws of the state of North Carolina for the primary purpose of preserving and honoring the legacy of Bob Moog through science, education, and historical preservation. 

Proceeds from the Bob Moog Foundation’s winter 2025 raffle benefit the important work of the Bob Moog Foundation, including our hallmark educational project, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, the vast and growing Bob Moog Foundation Archives, and the Moogseum, located in downtown Asheville, NC.

Purchase one or more raffle tickets during the raffle, and you will be entered in a drawing to win a one-of-a-kind Eurorack synthesizer inspired by the idea of “What Would Bob Do.”

Raffle tickets are $25 each, 5 for $100, 12 for $200, or 35 for $500. The odds of winning are based on the number of ticket entries purchased. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to enter. Tickets are non-transferable.

Past and current employees of the Bob Moog Foundation and current employees of Moog Music, Inc. are not eligible for entry. Past winners are not eligible for entry—we love you all, but let’s give someone else a turn.

The raffle is open to participants worldwide—contest void where prohibited. The raffle begins at 7 a.m. on December 1, 2025, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025. All times referenced are Eastern Standard Time.

Ticket purchases will be confirmed via email. No physical tickets will be sent.

HOW TO ENTER: Go to the Bob Moog Foundation’s online store for more details and to complete your purchase of an entry/ticket with your credit or debit card. 

Due to restrictions placed by PayPal regarding raffles, we are unable to accept payment via PayPal. 

SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: The winner will be selected at random and announced on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Once submitted, entries become the sole property of the Bob Moog Foundation and will not be returned. The winner will be notified by telephone and/or email. If a potential winner(s) cannot be reached within (7) seven days from the first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, such prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.

PRIZES: The grand prize is a one-of-a-kind 50-module Eurorack synthesizer with a retail value of $24,100 USD. The second prize is an Expressive-E Osmose synthesizer with a $1799 retail value. Third prize will be a free copy of the Noisy 2 software synthesizer by Expressive-E with a $149 retail value.

SHIPPING TERMS: The Bob Moog Foundation agrees to pay up to $200 in shipping costs within the United States and $400 internationally. Any additional shipping and/or customs charges are the responsibility of the winners. By purchasing a raffle ticket, you agree to cover all fees over the above-referenced figures before shipment of the prize. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of the prize and an alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing. Nothing will be shipped for the third prize; a download link will be supplied to the winner via email for the software synthesizer.

TAX OBLIGATIONS: The IRS requires raffle winners to pay federal taxes on the raffle winnings at the time of the award. However, the Bob Moog Foundation will assume the federal tax liability of 25% of MSRP to the IRS. If the winner of the Eurorack synthesizer, Osmose synthesizer, or Noisy 2 software synthesizer is from North Carolina, they will pay 3% state tax to the Bob Moog Foundation. All local and state taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. For any prizes valued at $1200 or more, the Bob Moog Foundation will file IRS Form 1099 MISC with the Internal Revenue Service reporting the value of the prize as income to the winner. If the winner is a U.S. citizen, they must show proof of social security number to the Bob Moog Foundation. This is for tax recording purposes only, and will not be used or released for any other purposes.

MODIFICATIONS OR CANCELLATION OF DRAWING: The Bob Moog Foundation reserves the right to cancel or modify the raffle at any time. If the raffle is canceled, all entries will be refunded.

INDEMNIFICATION AND LIMIT ON LIABILITY: As a condition of accepting a prize, the winner acknowledges that the Bob Moog Foundation is not responsible for any harm, injury, or damage caused to any person or property, proximate or otherwise, through the use of any prize by any person, and agrees to save and hold harmless the Bob Moog Foundation, its principals and employees from any claim of such responsibility. Harm, injury, or damage includes but is not limited to occurrences beyond the control of the Bob Moog Foundation such as death, bodily injury, property damage, or theft, or for the failure of any manufacturer or dealership’s warranties.

GENERAL: Ticket purchases are not a donation and are not tax-deductible. By entering the raffle, participants agree that the Bob Moog Foundation, its agents, and employees have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind that result from the date of the award. The prize is non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. The Bob Moog Foundation may use the winner’s name and likeness for publicity purposes without further compensation. The winner agrees to send the Bob Moog Foundation two digital images of the winner with the Eurorack synthesizer for promotional purposes within two weeks of receiving the instrument. The Bob Moog Foundation reserves the right to modify these rules and will promptly announce any rule changes. All decisions of the Bob Moog Foundation are final and binding in all matters related to this raffle. PayPal is not a payment option for the raffle due to its own payment processing restrictions.

AUTHORITY AND CONTROL: The Bob Moog Foundation’s decision shall be final in all matters concerning the raffle. The raffle is subject to the laws of the state of North Carolina. The raffle is void where prohibited by law.
