Our 2021 Raffle for the Minimoog Model D in custom African Makore cabinet has ended! We are deeply grateful to the 1,910 of you from 42 countries who purchased 4,169 tickets for the 2021 Spring Minimoog Raffle! Your support creates vital funding for adapting to the changes caused by the pandemic, including creating an online companion for the curriculum for Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, and hosting virtual events from the Moogseum. 

The Bob Moog Foundation is excited to announce its 2021 Minimoog Raffle, featuring a vintage, iconic Minimoog Model D synthesizer, serial number 8903, set in a stunning custom cabinet made from rare African Makore.

“This year marks the 50th year anniversary of Minimoog’s shipping to customers from the original R.A. Moog factory in Trumansburg, NY,” notes Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive director of the Bob Moog Foundation. “The Minimoog set the standard for an entire industry that followed, with its robust build, iconic sound, and elegant design. We are excited to offer an instrument of this caliber to our supporters all over the world as the prize for our spring raffle.”

Tickets to enter the raffle are $20 each, six for $100, 14 for $200, or 40 for $500

The raffle is open internationally from March 1, 2021 until 11:59pm ET on March 29, 2021, or until all 4,500 tickets sell out, whichever comes first.

The vintage Minimoog Model D being offered, serial number 8903, was built at Moog Music’s Buffalo, NY-era  factory during the late 1970s, has an estimated value of $6,500, and will only go up in value given the highly coveted nature of the synthesizer. This Minimoog has been carefully restored and future-proofed by the renowned synthesizer technician Wes Taggart of Analogics, and is in excellent technical condition. Taggart, also a lauded woodworker, fabricated the custom cabinet from rare African Makore wood, which is known for its beauty, strength, and durability.

The Minimoog Model D is widely recognized as the most iconic analog synthesizer of all time. Its internal wiring configuration and front panel layout have defined the general synthesizer configuration for decades. It is renowned for its robust, incomparable bass and lead sounds, which are rooted in its three voltage controlled oscillators (one of which can be used as a low frequency oscillator) and its legendary filters. The Minimoog uses a 4-pole (24 dB/octave) low-pass filter with cutoff, resonance, ADS envelope, and keyboard tracking controls. To this day, Moog’s filter design is widely regarded as the standard to which all others are compared.

Funds raised from the raffle will be used to expand the Foundation’s hallmark educational project, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, currently inspiring over 3,000 elementary school students per year through the science of sound. The raffle will also help support the Moogseum, an immersive, experiential facility located in Asheville, NC, which brings Bob Moog’s legacy and the science of sound and synthesis alive for people of all ages. The Moogseum was closed for five months in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The Bob Moog Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded upon Moog’s passing in 2005 to carry his legacy forward to future generations. The Foundation’s mission is to ignite creativity through the intersection of science, music, and innovation. Its projects include Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, a 10-week innovative curriculum that teaches children about the science of sound through music and technology, the preservation of the Bob Moog Foundation Archives, through which the organization protects and shares over 10,000 historical artifacts with museums, researchers and enthusiasts, and the Moogseum, a facility that serves to celebrate the history of Bob Moog’s legacy and explore the science and art behind sound and synthesis. The Moogseum is located in the heart of downtown Asheville, NC.
