Moogfest 2012 would not be complete without the fascinating discussions that arise from the unique panels of artists, technologists and historical figures who converge during the weekend and gather to explore their niche in the multi-faceted Moog legacy.

This year’s panels are highlighted by a special exploration with the members of the Google engineering team who designed the now infamous Bob Moog Google Doodle, which was launched on May 23rd, 2012 Bob’s 78th birthday.

Marc Doty, the Bob Moog Foundation’s Archive and Education Specialist, will be moderating two of the panels. Michelle Moog-Koussa, BMF Executive Director will be introducing the panels.

The free panels will be held at Diana Wortham Theatre (click for directions) starting at noon on Saturday, Oct. 27 and are open to all Moogfest attendees and the general public. All seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The titles and schedule for the panels is as follows:

Creative Expression Through Interface, 12 pm – 1:15pm

Pioneering synthesists Herb Deutsch and Morton Subotnick join modular guru and former Nine Inch Nails keyboardist Alessandro Cortini to discuss the interplay of hardware and software and the effect that musical instrument interfaces have on the artists approach to creative expression.

Learn more about the moderators for Moogfest 2012:

Marc Doty is a composer, synthesist, analog enthusiast, and educator whose YouTube vintage synthesizer-demonstration channel “Automatic Gainsay” has educated and inspired over 5,000,000 people worldwide.  As a result, he is frequently asked to demonstrate new products from companies like Moog Music and Arturia.

In May, Marc’s demonstration of the Bob Moog Google Doodle garnered over 300,000 views in under 24 hours, making it the first viral synthesizer demonstration video.

Marc’s knowledge and enthusiasm regarding synthesis, synthesizers, and the history of electronic music made him the perfect fit for the Bob Moog Foundation, where he is the Archive and Education Specialist. Through a recent collaboration between macProVideo and the Bob Moog Foundation, Marc created a 7-hour series of educational videos regarding synthesis and the history of electronic music. Those videos, which have earned rave reviews, are available for viewing or download on the MPV site. Proceeds from the sales of the videos benefit the BMF.
