Check out our Moogseum on PBS, featured in the new season six episode of travel host Samantha Brown’s PBS program, Places to Love.

The episode, entitled “The Makers,” explores great examples of craftsmanship in several disciplines, from leather goods to jazz guitars…to synthesizers. The Moogseum was chosen based on Bob Moog’s legacy of pioneering the creation of the modern-day synth and in so doing, birthing an industry.

Watch the whole episode above. The Moogseum segment starts at 6:03.

PBS viewers can also find local air dates for “The Makers” here: samb.tv/watch. You can also watch the episode on Brown’s website: https://samantha-brown.com/episodes/season-6/the-makers/

What is a Maker? A Maker has dedicated their life to creating a one-of-a-kind product. They often link history with innovation, and remind us that in a world where everything is at our fingertips, it can pay to be passionate about one single thing. In our many travels, we’ve met all kinds of makers. Whether they’ve chosen to revolutionize an industry or spent years perfecting a popular condiment, one thing remains constant – they have the utmost respect for the craft. Join us as we celebrate these makers and how they make their destinations “Places to Love.” — from samantha-brown.com

The Moogseum segment was filmed on location at our museum, and features Brown exploring the Moogseum with Michelle Moog-Koussa, our executive director, and August Worley, our technical advisor. Worley worked closely with Bob Moog on the design of the Minimoog Voyager, released in 2002.

August Worley, left, with Samantha Brown.

“We are thrilled that Samantha Brown chose to highlight the Moogseum through the lens of high craft,” said Michelle Moog-Koussa. “Bob Moog was a dedicated craftsman his entire career, beginning at just 19 years old. His work endures sixty years later because of the quality and attention to detail in everything he did. He proudly referred to himself as a toolmaker, working at the behest of musicians. His legacy of technical brilliance and creative warmth continues to inspire people around the world.”

The Moogseum brings Bob Moog’s pioneering legacy to life through experiential historical exploration and multi-sensory educational exhibits including interactive timelines of Bob Moog’s legacy and the Timeline of Synthesis, exploring 34 innovations in synthesis over the past 100 years.

It also includes exhibits on Leon Theremin and the theremin, the fundamentals of synthesis, modular synthesis, and how electricity becomes sound. A re-creation of Bob’s workbench and his deep connection to the local area are also featured.

The Moogseum has welcomed nearly 30,000 visitors from around the world since opening in May 2019. Find out more and reserve tickets at moogseum.org.
